Mastering, in the context of music production, refers to the final stage of audio post-production, designed to balance and optimize the various elements of a track to ensure it will sound the best it can across all platforms and playback systems. The primary goal of mastering is to ensure that a recording sounds consistent and maintains its desired sonic qualities whether played on a car stereo, a home hi-fi system, a smartphone, or over the radio. This process involves careful adjustment of various parameters like equalization, compression, limiting, and sometimes even stereo imaging. During mastering, engineers also create the final format for distribution, whether that's a vinyl record, CD, or digital streaming file. Additionally, mastering ensures that an album's tracks have a consistent level and tonal balance, taking into account the gaps between tracks, and making sure there is cohesion when played from start to finish. In essence, mastering is the final polish and quality check, ensuring that a piece of music is presented in its best possible form for the audience. I’ve had the honor of mastering for many great artists and unlike some mastering engineers who listen with their eyes, looking at graphs and meters, I master with music in mind. I like to call what I do “Musical Mastering” My goal is to get the emotion and message of the music to the listener.Different styles of music take different approaches. Instead of one size fits all I make sure that the music artists and songwriters send me is within the genre that they want to be in. I don’t master rock and roll the same way I do Rhythm and Blues. If you would like me to master your music, please fill out the form below, tell me about your project and I will get back to you with information on how to send your tracks, the rates etc. Here are some samples so you can hear the difference mastering makes.
